About Sparta, Michigan:
The Village of Sparta is a beautiful community conveniently situated off M-37, about 10 minutes north of Grand Rapids. On the edge of Downtown Sparta are agricultural fields and orchards with farmers markets and fruit stands as Sparta is nestled along some of the most productive land in Michigan.
Sparta Michigan is rich in history as well as agriculture. During WWII, the void left with by so many young men off to war, several German POW camps were erected in Michigan for the purposes of helping farmers harvest their crops. One of these camps was erected in Sparta.
In the early 1960, Fenton Records, located in the village of Sparta, was one of only three recording studios in the Grand Rapids area. Although short lived, the studio produced several recordings from what referred to as Michigan garage rock bands.
