Manufacturing

BHTD manufacturing accounting

BHT&D CPAs has been servicing manufacturing clients throughout West Michigan for over forty years. The majority of these clients manufacture custom products to order or process short run projects. We take the time to get to know each client's particular process so that we may provide the most beneficial advice for tax and financial purposes.

Services provided for manufacturing clients include:

  • Determine break-even point
  • Job costing
  • Work-in-process accounting
  • Financial statement setup
  • Inventory methods
  • Cost of goods sold analysis
  • Assistance with software selection
  • Chart of accounts setup
  • Covenant compliance

Manufacturing entities typically invest large sums of capital in equipment and facilities. We provide direction to our clients on choosing the depreciable life allowable for their specific type of manufacturing. This assures the maximum deduction possible on their return.

Many of our clients conduct business on a national and international level. As such, they may have Nexus (presence in another location) for tax purposes in other states in which they conduct business. We assist our clients in determining which states they have Nexus and at what level of business will they be required to file returns in each of those locations. Establishing Nexus in other locations outside of their home state may also allow for that income to be excluded from the Michigan Corporate Income Tax Return. This also applied to the Michigan Business Tax Return. As such, there may be opportunities to obtain refunds on previously filed returns.

We encourage all of our clients to meet before the end of their fiscal year to take advantage of any tax planning opportunities that may be available at that time. This will also help the client determine what funds are available for payment of bonuses or funding of retirement plans.
